Basic Skincare for Beginners

Creating a skincare routine can feel like navigating a maze of products and steps, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few key steps, you can begin working towards your skin goals. Let’s break it down!

Three Step Basic Skincare Routine

Cleanser: Start your morning and evening routines by cleansing your skin to remove any impurities like sweat, dust, makeup, etc. that have accumulated throughout the day or overnight. Cleanse with warm water, not hot, for at least 60 seconds. Pay close attention to cleansing your T-zone (your forehead, nose, and chin) as this area tends to produce the most oil and is usually more prone to acne breakouts.

Moisturizer: Follow up with a moisturizer that matches your skin’s needs. Using a thicker moisturizer at night can be beneficial for dry or aging skin whereas those with oily skin may only use a light moisturizer morning and night. Use enough moisturizer to cover the skin in a thin layer, gently working in with your fingertips until fully absorbed.

Sunscreen: Never skip sunscreen during your morning routine! The sun is a major player in skin aging because of the damage it does to the skin and its supporting structures. Korean sunscreens are developed using advanced UVA and UVB filtering technology that ensures your skin is not only protected from burns but also from deep cellular damage. Use at least a finger lengths amount of sunscreen and reapply every two hours or as needed. Make sure to cover the back of the ears and neck. You can also work any sunscreen leftover into the backs of the hands for protection there.

Remember, consistency is key when it comes to skincare routines. Choosing the right products and using them consistently will get your skin on track to meet your goals. Here are some of my favorite skincare novice-friendly products.
